Just reallised that my sec1-2 chinsese teacher just passed away during the weekend.
recieved the sms this morning(coz phone no batt), then was trying to remember who Wang Bin was, and later then it hit me, it is Wang Bin Lao Shi, my chinese teacher in NYGH and she also led the choir and taught music lessons for a while too. She passed away from liver cancer (or so the sms reported).
oh no. and i missed the wake i think. quite sad now. =*(
coz even tho i dun like chinese. i liked her. she was this utterly funky teacher in her 40s who is your typical motherly sort (more so that a particular cai ma ma that just sends shivers down my spine). she was always re-inventing our chinese lessons, so that it was interesting (rem got some chapter that had the tittle 落花生, although no relation to peanuts, she brought peanut titbits to interest us "half dead in teh afternoon" students for chinese class, and we had skits and out of cirriculum stuff for chinese (which is not common in a "result dedicated school" such as NY). Altough regretably i guess i was one of her errant students who gave her a lot of headaches (by being sucky at chinese and not handing up my 读书报告s and almost barely flunking my tests), She was really a great teacher, who never made me feel inferior(tho i must be one of the worst , correction the worst, in chinese in the class. Rem that she always complained that my comprehension marks were ridiculously high but when come to compo and fill in the blanks i'll just "cannot make it" and she don't understand why, since my chinese understanding seems alright.
She was one who truely cared about our welfare lor. She will come to class and go "so hot tadya ya?", then she'll use her "power" as the choir teacher to bring us to the music room, which was gorgeously air-con-ed to teach us lessons so that we can at least learn in a better environment, and think she once brought us out to lessons outside of the class under some tree(near canteen i might add). and bought dumplings for us(out of her own $, not cheap leh, in a class of 36) when it was dumpling festival at the canteen(we had lessons in the CANTEEN!!!) so that we can understand the festival and stuff. Think it's hard to come by a teacher such as her nowadays, and I truely respect her a lot as a person who was truely concerned about the students rather than just succumb to school politics. Coz rem that there was a fiasco about the school politics, and she was one of the few brave teachers that always stepped up and voiced out the students opinions and views for us.(very courageous act in nanyang i might add). Though it did lead to her leaving the school when we were sec 3 due to these conflicts with the school administrators eventually. =( [Nanyang's loss i tell u]
Still remember the days we'll trick her coz we are in 2/4 and her form class is 2/5, we'll just swap classrooms during april fools, and to be honest. We were Soooo jealous of 2/5 having her as the form teacher. coz she's really a fantastic person who truely cared about us, and i feel that we all shall rem her fondly. *sighs*
./end
may ye rest in peace in knowledge that we always think of you fondly.

Did she do all those things for us?? *gasp* I must have been dreaming cos I can't really remember. Ha.. I do agree on most of the things you said though, about her being very motherly and concerned about our welfare rather than just our results. And the part about letting us have lessons in the air-con music room was great! I remember her being concerned about every single student and not just the more "outstanding ones". I will miss her too. Great to read your blog post about her.
